Online Dissertation Proposal Workshop

Nuts and Bolts

This section of the site is designed as a practical guide to the proposal's various parts. You should first look at the suggested timeline indicating many of the activities that you will need to undertake in preparing to submit your proposal on time. While you may compress or extend this timeline, remember, you cannot begin too early.

See the Timeline.

The other links address each subsection's goals and offer advice to help you meet those objectives. There is no one way to write a proposal, and some funders may ask you for a specific structure or to address points not covered here. Nonetheless, the structure we present here can serve as a general template. Finally, there is a selected bibliography of works addressing concepts that you are likely to encounter in your social science research.

Note: The pages in this section are downloadable in PDF; download links are at the top of the page, just under the page's title. If you don't have a PDF reader, you can download one free from Adobe Acrobat.
