Mission

 

Asian Health Services (AHS) is a comprehensive community health center that provides medical care, health education, insurance counseling, and client advocacy to the underserved Asian and Pacific Islander (API) population in Alameda County. Serving the community since 1974, AHS provides over 50,000 medical visits to about 12,000 registered patients annually. AHS' mission is to serve and advocate for the immigrant and refugee Asian community regarding its health rights, and to assure access to health care services regardless of income, insurance status, language, or culture.

AHS' clinical services include: prenatal care, obstetrics, pediatric care, adolescent care, adult care, elderly care, confidential HIV testing and counseling and urgent care. AHS' community health outreach includes: smoking prevention and cessation education, prenatal workshops, family planning workshops, chronic disease self-management classes, HIV/AIDS prevention and cancer prevention education. AHS is home to the Language and Cultural Access Program, a medical interpretation and translation service; the Korean Women's Cancer Project, a community-based research project; and Community Voices for Immigrant Health, a health policy development program.
