Mission

CCLR is a statewide nonprofit organization focused on creating sustainable communities by identifying and implementing responsible patterns of land use and development through revitalizing urban areas, discouraging urban sprawl, and conserving greenspace. CCLR focuses on sites that are idle, abandoned, underutilized, or contaminated, known as "brownfields." CCLR believes that redeveloping urban brownfields improves living conditions for city dwellers that are at a disadvantage because of economic and racial segregation, and that redeveloping rural and suburban brownfields helps to create new housing, new jobs and a stronger tax base.

Programs/
Projects

CCLR accomplishes its goals through four main project areas. Its Project Learning program is designed to assist local, grassroots community groups with brownfield redevelopment projects by providing grant funding, technical and organizing assistance to an average of three groups a year. A second workshop component provides practical training for managers engaged in redeveloping environmentally impacted properties. CCLR's Policy and Practices program also works on reducing obstacles to redevelopment and formulating sound growth policy at the state and local levels. Finally, CCLR's Information and Outreach Program draws on the experience of CCLR grantees and technical experts to provide information and education to individuals interested in land recycling.
