The Children's Environmental Health Network is a national multi-disciplinary organization whose mission is to protect the fetus and the child from environmental health hazards and promote a healthy environment. The California Project, funded by a generous grant from The California Wellness Foundation, seeks to improve children's health by addressing environmental health hazards. |

CEHN focuses its efforts where there are service and environmental impact disparities in society and communities. The Network's current projects in California provide information and advocacy in multiple areas. The new Green Building project identifies "green" contractors and organizes resources on alternative ways to build conservation-minded portable school buildings. Through reports and research, a second project works to influence policy related to the health effects of suburban sprawl. In California, CEHN also develops curriculum for community health workers and in-home educators; it is currently translating a successful curriculum model from Spanish to English, to make it available to African American communities. Through the national network, CEHN organizes technical and policy resources, and it has published an asthma resource guide for California on the web. The Network also helps other health organizations to publicize and implement their programs on asthma and pesticide issues. |
