Major projects include working with California Indian communities that don't have federal recognition and have no land base. Cultural Conservancy works on helping them to regain federal recognition and access to ancestral land. They work with Indian communities, doing organizing, research and media work, referring to legal assistance groups. They do toxic prevention and education, for example they have worked on the Ward Valley campaign to prevent toxic waste dumping. They also campaign against genetically modified organisms (GMO) for reservations, by bringing information to communities that focuses on the health impacts of GMOs in agriculture. They try to help communities steer away from commodity foods and reliance on big agribusiness. |
