Abed-Kotob, Sana. The accommodationists speak: goals and strategies of the Muslim brotherhood of Egypt. International Journal of Middle East Studies v27, n3 (August, 1995):321 (19 pages). Abstract: The main objective for the Muslim Brotherhood of Egypt is setting up of an Islamic State on the basis of Islamic jurisprudence. This objective is a little new to the Western political thought but it is important that the vision of an Islamic state covers the establishing democratic ideas such as liberty, representation and accountability and socioeconomic justice. The Brotherhood's main strategy was branded accommodation with the extant political system because the group has become dependent on constitutional channels for bringing about the changes. Western nations should establish a relationship with the Brotherhood because it is likely to become very powerful as different Islamic groups unite.

Squeezing Islam's moderates. (Egypt's moderate Muslim Brotherhood opposition movement) Middle East, n224 (June, 1993):11. Abstract: The Moslem Brotherhood, Egypt's largest moderate Islamic opposition party, is worried that the party's supporters may join Moslem radical extremists in their violent fight against the government of Pres Hosni Mubarak. The Moslem Brotherhood maintains that it has not changed its stand on the need for peaceful reforms in Egypt. However, concerns have been raised by some sectors that the government's efforts to curtail the activities of the Moslem Brotherhood may lead its supporters to advocate violent means in achieving reform in the country.
