The Future of Biotechnology in International Politics
Workshop:
December 16, 2006
On December 16, 2006, the Berkeley - Duke New Era Foreign Policy Project,
in cooperation with the Council on Foreign Relations, held a workshop
on the evolving role of biotechnology and the life sciences in international
politics. The workshop brought together a variety of life sciences
stakeholders, active in the fields of international security, global
public health, innovation and drug development, medicine, philanthropy,
regulatory policy, intellectual property, and demography. The goal
was to collectively chart the complex tradeoffs that will develop over
the next three to five years, as the policy goals of different life
science constituencies come into much closer contact. A follow-up workshop
has been scheduled for Spring 2007.
