AFRICAN-AMERICAN INSTITUTE- African Graduate Fellowship Program (AF-GRAD). A varying number of fellowships are offered to sub-Saharan African students for study in priority fields directly related to participating African countries development plans and needs. Fellowships are tenable in the U.S. for one academic year and are renewable subject to satisfactory progress until the required degree is obtained. Eligibility: Open to students who have achieved superior undergraduate academic records and who are nominated by their government. Financial Provisions: l. Tuition and fees, round-trip travel, and an allowance for maintenance, books, etc.; 2. There are no allowances for dependents of fellows; 3. English language training is provided if necessary; 4. On completion of the program, fellows are expected to return to their home countries. Deadline: Applications generally considered October and November for commencement in the fellowship year. AFRICAN-AMERICAN INSTITUTE- Development Education for Portuguese-speaking Africans Program (DEPSA). Grants are awarded to government nominated candidates from the Portuguese speaking countries of Africa. Awards are tenable for university level study programs at institutions in the U.S. Fields of study will be the priority development areas specified by the government. English language training will be provided where necessary. Awards include round-trip travel, tuition, maintenance and books. AFRICAN-AMERICAN INSTITUTE- Southern African and Namibian Refugee Training Program (SATP). Grants are available to qualified candidates to provide priority development-related training in African and American universities and post-secondary technical and vocational institutions. All SATP candidates are encouraged to seek admission to African institutions; chances for study in Africa are greater than in the U.S. Support is not offered for postgraduate studies. Candidates must be refugees from South Africa and Namibia who sought asylum prior to January, 1982. AFRICAN-AMERICAN INSTITUTE- Southern African Training Program (SATP). In anticipation of black majority rule in southern Africa, training awards are offered to nationals of South Africa and Namibia. Awards are available for post-secondary school study programs in technical institutions in the U.S. and Africa. Awards cover travel, tuition, maintenance, books and related expenses.
