This interview is part of the Institute's "Conversations with History" series, and uses Internet technology to share with the public Berkeley's distinction as a global forum for ideas. The interview was conducted in English and Japanese; Beth Cary served as translator.
Welcome to a Conversation with History. I am Harry Kreisler of the Institute of International Studies. Our distinguished guests are two leading figures of the Japanese cinema: director Masahiro Shinoda and his wife, actress Shima Iwashita.
Masahiro Shinoda and Shima Iwashita attended the Pacific Film Archive screening of a new print of Punishment Island (Shokei no shima, 1966) on February 27, 1999. Mr. Shinoda introduced the film and answered questions after the screening.
