Research and Training Programs
The
New Era Foreign Policy Project is part of the Center for America's
Global Strategic Challenges, a recently established Berkeley-Duke collaboration
based at the Institute of International Studies (IIS) at Berkeley and
the Terry Sanford Institute of Public Policy at Duke.
The
Religion, Politics, and Globalization Program promotes multidisciplinary
research and programming by organizing lectures and conferences, encouraging
student and faculty research, and serving as a hub for community members
interested in understanding how the forces of religion, politics, and
globalization interact in the modern world.

The Political Economy of Energy Transitions project, supported by the Energy Biosciences Institute, investigates the global political, economic, and security implications of a partial shift from fossil fuels to other energy sources, including biofuels.
The
Green Governance, Green Peace Program fosters international exchange
between the University of California, Berkley, and research institutions
in Indonesia, Nigeria, and Brazil addressing the question of new approaches
to environmental policy and law, conflict resolution, and local resource
management. This project is an outgrowth of the Environmental
Politics program.
The BACPOP monthly
seminar on demography and population issues is jointly sponsored
by the Demography Department and the Institute for International Studies
(IIS).
IIS hosts visiting scholars from across the globe. Their research focuses on a myriad of issues, including political violence, post-conflict reconstruction, international business ethics, and technology and development policy.
The Sanford S. Elberg Lecture in International Studies

Professor of Medical Microbiology and Immunology and Emeritus Dean of the Graduate
Division, this lectureship was endowed with contributions primarily from Dean
Elberg's Berkeley colleagues. It honors his tireless efforts and substantial
achievements in building the excellence of graduate education at Berkeley,
including his support for international studies.
