Alan Cranston: Institute of International Studies, UC Berkeley
After reading Senator Cranston's responses to their e-mail questions, Gale Ow asked her students to comment on their online exchange with California's former senator. Here are their comments:
Hi, we're responding to your website based on Cranston's responses to our questions. We think you have done a very good job in presenting the questions, organizing the categories and being thorough and clear in your responses. It was important to us to receive your responses to our email questions because it showed us that Mr. Cranston was interested and took our questions seriously. We want to thank you again for taking the time to set up a website where we can email you and thank Mr. Cranston for also taking time to respond to us.

I just wanted to say that it has been a great experience learning about Senator Cranston and having a chance to get involved with the globetrotter website. You have done a wonderful job with this website. Please thank Mr. Cranston for devoting his time to this project and answering our questions.
Sincerely, Kenny
I really like the section where Cranston responds to our questions because it allows me to have a better idea of Cranston. It is all interesting information, but I think I would like to see some more questions answered because I think there are some other good questions.
Cindy
Hello! We enjoyed reading the email chat with Alan Cranston on the globetrotter website. We were pleased to see our email questions answered by Mr. Cranston on the website. Thank you for helping youth get involved in politics and world issues.

Hello! I just finished browsing through the "E-mail with Senator Cranston" page, and I wanted to first off thank you for the wonderful opportunity you have provided for me and my classmates. I had a lot of fun with this project because it was a new experience for me. I learned a great deal also. I think the website is very clean-cut and well organized. However, the website itself is very difficult to find. I looked under every link the homepage provided, and I couldn't find a direct link to the Lowell questions page. Is there one that I missed? And if not, I think it would be wonderful if other people visiting the site could have direct access to the wonderful email exchange. I want to thank you again. It was so exciting to scroll through the questions to see that Mr. Cranston had answered one of my questions. Have a wonderful week!
Sincerely, Jane

Alan Cranston's responses helped complete his interview in the Conversations with History archive. I was more interested in the fact that my peers asked some decent questions. Sincerely, I do not know what Ms. Ow wants us to learn from this. Cranston is an interesting man, but the interviews haven't brought insight into the workings of our democracy.
Furthermore, Cranston is a Stanford man. His name should not be anywhere on Cal sites, especially after we lost the Big Game for the sixth straight time. This is getting sad.

Hi. I enjoyed going on the site and also reading the e-mail questions that me and my classmates sent since Mr. Cranston answered all the questions. It was a great experience because the site is easy to read and convenient to click around. Cool!
Sincerely, Iris
I was really pleased with the results of the website. It was great to see our questions posted on it. I think that Cranston did a thorough job completing and answering our questions. I really liked how Cranston encouraged young people to go out and try to take an active role in politics, especially on the issue of nuclear weapons. I think it was great to see such a busy guy take so much time to answer our questions whole-heartedly.

The website was very interesting. The description of what our class worked on was very thorough and I liked how our questions were separated into different categories. Cranston's answers were very thorough and complete as well. I think it would be even more interesting to have our pictures on the site. :) Thank you for such a great website.
Sincerely, Terry
Hello. After looking over the website where Mr. Cranston answered our questions, I feel like I know about his personality and opinions than I did before. I have a great respect for him now. From the way Mr. Cranston was answering our questions I can tell that he spoke from within and that his answers weren't standard and vague. His philosophy about life and politics inspired from the Chinese philosopher is very impressive. The quotes at the top of each page are a nice touch, also. Mr. Cranston is truly an accomplished and unique person.
