Advice for Students

One final question. How would you advise students to prepare for the future if they want to participate in a multinational, multilateral world where there are going to be a lot of problems?

Well, first of all, to be informed, to be informed. To read newspapers, which give you a fair picture of the world, and to be engaged at your local level in something which is beyond yourself, to take an interest in something beyond yourself for the benefit of others. Whatever that is, I think it's good.

Be informed. You can contribute, if you want to. You cannot change the world, perhaps, alone, but there will be some point you will find when you're fully informed (which a student should be), to take a decision. There are so many scholarships, programs, interchanges going on, so if you want to do it, you can do it.

Well, Mr. Ambassador, with that positive note, thank you very much for being here and sharing this story of your intellectual odyssey, and your work ending up at the UN. Thank you very much.

Thank you very much.

And thank you very much, for joining us for this Conversation with History.
