Welcome to a Conversation with History. I'm Harry
Kreisler of the Institute of International Studies. Our guest today
is Chalmers Johnson, who is president of the Japan Policy Research
Institute, a nonprofit research and public affairs organization devoted
to public education concerning Japan and international relations in
the Pacific.
He
taught for thirty years, 1962 to 1992, at the Berkeley and San Diego
campuses of the University of California and held endowed chairs in
Asian politics at both of them. His most recent books, a trilogy, focus
on the American empire. They are Blowback, The Sorrows of Empire, and
now his new book, Nemesis: The Last Days of the American Republic.
